Art Deco Oak Antique Grandfather Tall Case Clock, Signed Lauffer, Germany #29377. An Art Deco period grandfather or tall case clock from about 1920 is signed E. The fine grained oak case has a restored finish in excellent condition. There is a lock on the door, the lower glass is shaped and beveled. Professionally cleaned and oiled, the brass weight driven movement keeps accurate time for a week on a winding, with pull chains. Deep resonant chimes count the hour and sound the half hour on this vintage clock. The embossed dial, weights and pendulum are brass. Schwenningen has made clocks for centuries in the Black Forest in southern Germany, and has a famous Museum of Clockmaking. Measurements are 20″ wide, 11″ deep and 76 tall. This clock needs to be “set up” when delivered – weights and pendulum attached and the case leveled. The process is not very difficult, and it is also nice to know how to do this again whenever the clock needs to be moved for cleaning, painting or whatever. A few customers prefer to hire a local clockmaker at their own expense to make a house-call and set up the clock, which is usually not very expensive, depending on your location.
